Maintaing A Healthy Heart Using Natural Old Home Remedies

By Kris Bovay

Keeping a healthy heart can be easy by following a little advice and trying some natural old home remedies. This does mean some changes in a person's life, such as, maintaining a healthy diet and exercise plan. But you must not forget to balance your life to help reduce as much stress as possible and to actually try and enjoy life.

We all know that having a healthy heart means we have to: eat a healthy diet; do regular exercise; not smoke; minimize our stress - or learn how to handle it; and maintain a weight that is healthy for your age and body.

A heart attack is a scary topic to discuss, but to minimize your chances, your heart must be efficiently pumping blood through your body and at the same time reducing the plaque within your arteries. You should also take note on how to reduce your cholesterol naturally.

But knowing what to do, and doing it, is not always the same thing.

What is a Healthy Heart Rate?

Figuring out your resting heart rate: Start by counting how many times your heart beats in a single minute, but make sure to lie down and breathe slowly and normal. Try this early in the morning just after you wake up for the best results.

Your heart rate is affected by age, gender (men generally have a lower heart rate), physical fitness, stress, medical condition and/or medications. An average to good adult resting heart rate ranges from 60 to 80 times a minute at rest.

The more physically fit an adult is, will result in a lower heart rate. If the resting heart rate is over 80 that is a good indicator of poor heart performance. You should seek medical care as this could be from a number of different reasons.

Tip for a Healthy Heart: Exercising is a great way to start improving your heart rate (always seek doctor's approval before starting a new exercise plan). An easy to improve your heart rate and improve your physical fitness is to implement a favorite old home remedy: Walk!

Walk to the store to pick up groceries. Walk your dog daily. Walk with your partner or friends. If you feel you don't have enough time because of work, park your car 5 blocks away from work and walk those 5 blocks daily (then increase by a block or two a week). Try a pedometer to count the number of steps you take daily. The average working adult takes about 1000 to 3000 steps daily; the healthy heart rate goal is to do 10,000 steps daily. Once you start measuring your steps you will be able to focus on increasing your fitness and improving your heart rate.

All About Healthy Heart Eating.

There were two factors in improving your heart rate, the first was improving your fitness level, and the other was following a healthy eating plan. We have all heard our favorite childhood saying, "Eat Your Vegetables!"...but don't forget your fruits and complex carbohydrates.

Another Natural Old Home Remedy: To get started on eating healthier, try examining your plate and see if it meets these requirements. You should have on your dinner plate: half full with an assortment of vegetables, a quarter of the plate with starch or grains (try healthy ones such as, barley, bulgar, cracked wheat, brown rice or wild rice) and the other quarter with protein. In today's society, we typically eat more protein, starches and refined grains than we should.

Keeping a Healthy Heart and Natural Old Home Remedies

We all know that having a healthy heart requires that we take care of our bodies. But we tend to put other priorities ahead of our own health: priorities such as our children and family, our work, and our friends.

We should realize that the focus needs to be on our own health now, so we can try to make our lives last as long as possible to enjoy our family and activities.

How Non-Small Cell Lung Cancer Is Treated

By Brad Johansine

How Non-Small Cell Lung Cancer Is Treated

When you breathe, air flows down your trachea, through your bronchi, and into your lungs. When a person develops non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC), it usually (though, not always) begins within the bronchi. Once it forms, the cancer generates chemicals that help produce new blood vessels, which in turn feed the cancerous cells. This process results in the formation of a tumor. Eventually, the tumor grows until it can be identified through an x-ray. Meanwhile, the cancerous cells metastasize and become more difficult to treat.

Below, we'll explain a few treatment paths for NSCLC, including surgery, radiation, and chemotherapy. Lung cancer is a life-threatening disease; the earlier it is diagnosed, the higher likelihood it can be successfully treated.

Surgical Procedures

Surgery is often the most effective way to eliminate NSCLC. There are four types of operations used by physicians. The least severe is a procedure called a wedge resection. This is done to remove the tumor and a small portion of the surrounding tissue. Another type of surgical procedure is called a lobectomy and involves the removal of the lobe in which a tumor and cancerous cells exist.

A surgeon will perform a pneumonectomy when it is necessary to remove the entire lung. A sleeve resection might be performed with the surgeon believes removing a portion of the affected bronchus is beneficial.

Internal Or External Exposure To Radiation

Radiation therapy is occasionally used as the primary treatment path for NSCLC when surgery presents a risk to the patient's health. It can be delivered internally or externally. In the case of the former, radiation is delivered to the affected area through catheters and wires. In the latter case, a machine that emits radiation is positioned near the patient and is programmed to send x-rays toward the tumor.

Chemotherapy

Chemotherapy is used to target and destroy cancerous cells. It can be delivered regionally (that is, to a specific area) or systemically through the bloodstream. If the disease is still localized, the chemicals can be injected directly. If it has metastasized, oral ingestion is usually necessary; that allows the chemicals to spread to the affected sites.

Chemo takes a toll on the body. Physicians administer it in sessions in order to allow patients time to recuperate before beginning subsequent cycles of treatment.

Other Forms Of Treatments

Besides surgery, radiation, and chemotherapy, doctors might use radiofrequency ablation or photodynamic therapy to treat localized NSCLC. Radiofrequency ablation is typically used for smaller tumorous masses that are located at the edge of the lungs. Photodynamic therapy is used to treat small tumors that exist in the airways. Both forms of treatment are used when other strategies are deemed a poor choice.

The challenge with lung cancer is that it can metastasize quickly, often before tumors appear on x-rays. When this happens, it is difficult to resolve through localized treatment alone. Speak with your surgeon about the types of treatment available to determine the best approach for your personal circumstances. - 22736

How To Have A Baby Boy - Tips and Tricks that Work

By Olivia Campbell-Price

Have you been trying for awhile to have a little boy to be a baby brother in your family? You might be ready to give up thinking about how to have a baby boy and don't want to be disappointed even though you love your daughters. But don't give up just yet, even if you think your chances are zero to none.

Did you know that women do not determine the sex of the baby? Rather, the sperm that comes out of the male contains both set of chromosomes that determine the baby's gender . However, increasing the likelihood of conceiving a baby boy is very well possible when you learn how to have a baby boy.

Male sperm is known for moving faster than the female sperm but is by and large weaker. Not only that female sperm can live much longer than the male sperm. Given these factors, it's interesting to note that there are still more boys born than there are girls. In about 100 births, boys outnumber girls 51 to 49.

Male sperm will die off before the X sperm. For this reason, if you have sexual intercourse between four to two days before ovulation, then the chances of any Y sperm surviving is considerably reduced. The X or female sperm can live longer, up to seven days in the reproductive tract, and have the ability to fertilize the egg upon ovulation.

How to have a baby boy can be made easier when you know in advance when you will ovulate. Once you can identify the time frame for ovulation and release of the egg from the ovary, you can have sex within 48 hours and thereby increase your chances of having a boy. There are special kits available which help detect the LH surge or indicator that you are about to ovulate.

Things the father-to-be can do to improve the odds of conceiving a boy are to wear looser underwear and avoiding strenuous activity for a while until you can confirm a pregnancy. Cutting down on smoking and drinking can also improve sperm count and increase the chances of healthy Y sperm. Doing these few things have helped many couples who struggle with how to have a baby boy.

Believe it or not, what you eat or do before you get pregnant can help with the sex of the baby. Your doctor can let you know what your vaginal pH levels are and make recommendations with respect to creating Y sperm friendly conditions. How to have a baby boy is not as hard as you think it is and is possible if you're willing to follow the tips in this article. - 22736

Quadruple Bypass Surgery News

By Dorothy Haugh

The following article includes pertinent information on quadruple bypass surgery that may cause you to reconsider what you thought you understood. The most important thing is to study with an open mind and be willing to revise your understanding if necessary.

The most adequate diet for at least 3-4 weeks post gastric bypass surgery is nutritional fluids. To retrain gut and gradually increase stomach capacity to hold food for digestion, an individual should emphasize on consuming liquid diet rather than foods hard on stomach. By losing over 125 lbs in such a short period of time, some wonder if she might have had gastric bypass surgery. This is a procedure usually reserved for those who are so overweight liposuction does not help to reduce fat and excess fat cannot be reduced through natural means such as exercising.

You can never go back to having a normal digestive system after undergoing gastric bypass surgery. Even more frightening, studies show that patients are just as unhealthy following the procedure as they were before it, even when they lose weight. In general, there is one type of gastric bypass procedure which is called the 'Roux-en-Y' gastric bypass. This is the one that is most commonly performed and has proven to be a very effective treatment. For many of them, gastric bypass surgery appears to offer the only hope of long-term weight loss. Once viewed as a radical weight-loss alternative, the surgery is becoming increasingly popular.

I trust that what you've read so far on quadruple bypass surgery has been informative. The following section should go a long way toward clearing up any uncertainty that may remain.

Since then Steve has become one of the busiest gastric bypass surgeons in the country, carrying out 2,500 operations in the past 15 years. He also performs the much talked-about gastric band procedure. You, as anesthesia that before and after gastric bypass carries more information on gastric bypass surgery. Take a look at the gastric bypass pics and see for yourself.

Furthermore, surgeons in Europe who have banded for over a decade (almost universally) are starting to do gastric bypass preferentially, or as rescue or revision operations on their failed LAP-BAND patients. Nevertheless, LAP-BAND is an easy operation to perform, with few early complications associated with the operation itself. In 2002, the number of gastric bypass procedures jumped 40%, to 80,000. In 2003, the number of surgeries exceeded 120,000. If you go to your local library or bookstore, you'll find a variety of cookbooks filled with recipes that can be adapted for gastric bypass recipients. There are even books devoted to gastric bypass recipes only.

I am asking about the gastric bypass. The calcium deficiencies in gastric bypass patients, is caused by the bypassing of the first part of the small bowel, called the duodenum. This risk occurs in about 2% of gastric bypass procedures. Use of antibiotics or immediate re-operation is needed.

It never hurts to be well-informed with the latest on quadruple bypass surgery. Compare what you've learned here to future articles so that you can stay alert to changes in the area of gastric bypass surgery. - 22736

Quit Smoking Program Benefits

By James Morley

One very important aspect of quitting smoking is the support of family and friends who need to encourage the smoker constantly and also show
appreciation in his attempt to quit smoking.

Counseling is a part of any cessation program. This includes understanding the smoking status of the patient, advising him/her to quit, citing the side effects of smoking, assessing the willingness of the patient to quit, assisting the patient in quitting, if he/she shows willingness and finally arranging for regular checkups and monitoring to check whether the patient has really quit smoking or not. Counseling refers to any form of interaction of a smoker with a health care professional or a doctor who can provide medical advice related to the
health of the smoker.

The first thing that must be understood when dealing with a child with enuresis (medical term for bedwetting) is to never chastise the child. The embarrassment of this uncontrollable condition is enough to bring upon low self esteem.

A reward system is a more effective measure when dealing with children who wet their bed. This system is not the absolute answer to how to stop bedwetting, but what it will do is make the child more conscious about waking up at night to relieve themselves.

There are several different techniques that have been used as a solution depending on each individual case. Some bedwetting sufferers have found that hypnosis and other measures like chiropractic re-alignment is a viable solution.

Bedwetting can be caused by medical conditions and with that comes different solutions. The normal solutions for enuresis caused by anxiety and stress should not be the only options when searching for a bedwetting cure.
